YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

So, how does this work?
Using an Excel spreadsheet you create the best possible draft order for your league's scoring system. The programming behind the scenes takes away all the mundane and calculation-intesnse work and leaves you to worry about the bigger picture: winning the league.

Sounds great - what do I need to make this work?
You need Microsoft Excel, version 2000, 2003, or 2007. We use special macro programming that requires Excel. Sorry, this is incompatible with Microsoft Works, Lotus 1-2-3, OpenOffice, or any other spreadsheet program for that reason. Also, you must make sure your macro security setting in Excel is set to allow macros (a security setting of "medium" means you will be asked whether macros should be run each time you open our spreadsheet, which we think works best for most users).

Got it. So I just fire it up and get a winner, right? Sounds too good to be true.
You'd be surprised. The honest answer is no, you are better off using last year's statistics as a base (which we allow you to import) and then tweak numbers based on how you think players will do on new teams, add a few hot rookie prospects, and adjust for fading veterans. But if that seems too hard, using last year's numbers tailored to your scoring will allow you to outperform the typical person who shows up at a draft with a few magazines under his arm.

Uh, you know about the magazines?
And the web sites too, yep. On draft day, everyone has the same intel. We've seen good references out there, but the biggest problem in blindly using those sources is that they point out sleepers and hot prospects without regard to YOUR league. Think about it - a player might be worth dramatically more or less depending on whether your league tracks free throw percentage to name just one stat. The first thing you do with our system is enter your league scoring system. Even without ranking a single player - just taking last seasons - gives surprising results with no more work than that..

But I need an internet connection to make this thing work, right?
We let you download statistics to provide a foundation for rankings. Update, save, and take the spreadsheet with you. No more internet connection required. This can be a big deal for those live drafts where you can use a laptop but can't tap into any WiFi connection.

Cool! Tell me, my league has a roto-scoring system and I'm wondering how you ranked certain players above others. With so many variables, how do you do it?
We don't divulge all our secrets, but we factor in the following:

  • League size player weighting (the size of your league may make certain positions more important - we factor this in)
  • League scoring (just the stats that matter to your league are used)
  • "Effective" Field Goal and Free Throw Percentage (not all percentages are created equal - players who shoot more make these stats more meaningful)

Pretty slick. How do I order?
Glad you asked. Head over to our order section.

I have a tech support question. Can you help?
We do our best to help. If your macro security is set to Low or Medium and you have enabled macros but still have problems, head over to our contact form and submit a question.

My league scores on some strange categories. Which ones work with your system?
We currently work with the following:

  • Points
  • Threes Made
  • Threes Attempted
  • Threes Missed
  • Threes %
  • Field Goals Made
  • Field Goals Attempted
  • Field Goals Missed
  • Field Goal %
  • Free Throws Made
  • Free Throws Attempted
  • Free Throws Missed
  • Free Throw %
  • Rebounds
  • Off. Rebounds
  • Def. Rebounds
  • Assists
  • Steals
  • Blocks
  • Minutes
  • Turnovers
  • Fouls

We can't rank everything, but chances are you will find our stats pretty extensive.

My tracks an admittedly strange category that isn't on your list. What can I do about that?
Let us know and we might be able to help you out.
